James McKerron joined the City of Glasgow Police in July 1952 and was posted to the ‘D’ (Southern) Division.
On 18 March 1956, he was on patrol and became aware of a tenement fire in Nicholson Street, Glasgow. He went immediately to the scene and was informed that two young children were trapped by the fire in a room at the rear of the property. He entered the building and was successful in locating the two children and carrying them to safety.
In recognition of his courageous conduct, he was awarded the Queen’s commendation for Brave Conduct and the Glasgow Corporation Medal for Bravery.
