Constable Robert Dickson, Constable Hugh Cranston (H.38), Constable Thomas Mitchell and Constable Colin Fraser (G.586) were all members of the City of Glasgow Police, Traffic Department.
On 1 October 1949, these officers were on patrol in two separate patrol cars when they intercepted a motor vehicle containing armed criminals. Displaying bravery and courageous action, they were successful in disarming and apprehending all of the men.
All four officers were awarded the King’s Commendation for Brave Conduct and the Glasgow Corporation Medal for Bravery.
